BAYLEAF

(Laurus Nobilis)

Flora

Some say that bayleaf has “magic powers” with the ability to attract prosperity in life. The owner of the Bayleaf Madeira Apartments grew up in the highlands of São Vicente, right at the beginning of Laurissilva Forest, where the Lauraceae are originally from, like the bay tree (Laurusnovocanariensis), the royal laurel tree (Persea indica), and (Ocotea foetens) the commonly called til. These species of plants in the Lauraceae family are surrounded by water that flows to the ocean.

Cultura

Bayleaf also reflects the proximity that our people have with the bay, with the sea, or else we would not be an Atlantic Ocean Island located. In the Bay of Funchal, every year, hundreds of cruises enrapture with passengers willing to enjoy all sorts of cultural and recreational activities that the Island has to offer, but first and foremost, excited to contemplate New Year’s fireworks, a worldwide known pyrotechnic show.

Gastronomia

Bayleaf explores its cuisine traditions, combining soups with a great variety of fishes, meat dishes and chicken. It is used all over the world and it is suitable to dishes that require a long stew, allowing the essential oils to be slowly released and evaporated. They are usually dishes with strong scents and smooth flavors.

MADEIRA

“The Island of Madeira has an area of 741 km2, a length of 57 km length and 22 km in width.

Its privileged geographic location as well as its mountainous orography, gives Madeira Island a spontaneous warmth climate, with mild average temperatures that range from 25ºC in the Summer to 17ºC in the Winter time, combined with mild humidity.

Due to the influence of the Gulf of Mexico Loop Current, the sea water is also warmth, presenting Summer averages of 22ºC and 18ºC during the Winter.” – visitmadeira
